Students of Reiki Learn Reiki Principles
It is my firm belief they stand on their own
“Just for today”
This is perhaps the greatest gift of the principles. Just for today recognizes that we are humans and imperfect. Every day is a new opportunity to begin again. Just for today… is a profound way of saying: “I know my limitations, but I am also aware of my potential”.
I have a challenge for you: For the next week, implement “Just for today…” as an attitude. Give yourself some grace.
Just for today, do not be angry
The source of worry is fear of change, the thing we don’t always have control over. In my world, it’s called ‘What if?’ Eventually I had to ask myself if I liked living on What If Street. NO I DID NOT!!! The best way to move from What If Street is on the Information Highway. Seek it, find it, use it. The more I know, the less I worry.
We must do our best to distinguish between solvable and unsolvable worries. Whenever possible, take action. Action cancels out a myriad of ailments associated with these stress of senseless, useless worrying.
The opposite of worry is peace of mind.
Just for today, be grateful
The original quote was “express your thanks”. We cannot just say we are grateful, we must actively express it. It’s good to keep track of your blessings but don’t keep score.
Comparison is the thief of joy. Being grateful can rewire negative attitudes into positive ones. Take big joy in small things.
The fruits of gratitude is joy.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
In this principle, work refers to our careers, as well as emotional, mind, body and spirit work.
No job is too humble that it does not deserve our full effort.
Turn work into prayer and the humblest task becomes sacred.
Just for today, be kind to others
Honor all living things and be tolerant of the way others choose to live their lives. Remember that being kind to everyone must include ourselves. Even the happiest among us has some internal struggle. Little things mean a lot. Hold the door, return the cart, share your table and maybe a laugh or even a tear.
Kindness begets kindness
I now invite you to put these Five Principles of Living into practice.
Just for today, invite calm and peace of mind into your life.
Just for today, invite joy and the sacred into your day.
And in a world where we can be anything…
Just for today, let us be kind to one another.
